Chase Courington gets his hands dirty with printing and painting.

- Let′s party! My neighbor has been throwing a party for the last 5 years in celebration of James Brown and Cinco de Mayo. “The Godfather of Soul”‚ James Joeseph Brown‚ Jr. was born on May 3‚ 1933. The Mexican army defeated the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5‚ 1862 leading to a great morale boost in the war against French occupation. My neighbor celebrates both events through a combined party he calls James Brown Mexifest‚ tacos‚ tequila‚ soul music all on the same night. In 2009 I designed a small handbill that he used as invitations to the party‚ giving out to friends and neighbors. This year I took elements from the handbill and created limited edition screen prints during a workshop at Ink Lounge in Denver. This was my first screen printing experience and definately not the last. The image of James Brown with the mariachi band was created in photoshop‚ the text was slightly altered in illustrator and everything came together in inDesign. The prints are metallic cyan ink with magenta offset on various paper colors. May‚ 2009 and 2010
